Advanced Laparoscopic & Hysteroscopic Surgeries

Laparoscopy :

Is to view peritoneal cavity through a small 5 to 10 mm incision on skin. It gives a panoramic view of intra-abdominal organs.

With facilities of video laparoscopy, most of the operations for abdominal organs are performed by using Video Laparoscopy technique

Advantages are

  • On abdominal skin three to four 5 mm skin incisions are made & operative instrument is passed through them. Main incision through which telescope is passed may be 5 or 10 mm.
  • Long abdominal incision & cutting of all abdominal layers is avoided.
  • Less bleeding
  • Less pain – mainly post-operative pain is due to cutting & suturing of abdominal wall layers.
  • Patient is mobile on second day.
  • May resume home or office work early.

Laparoscopic operations are same as open abdominal operations done through small incisions. They are very safe & as complete as open abdominal operations.

Variety of Gynaec Laparoscopic operations are done in this hospital namely

  • Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
  • Ovarian cystectomy
  • Salpingostomy or salpingectomy for tubal pregnancy
  • Adhesiolysis
  • Laparoscopic Cervicopexy for uterine prolapse in young women
  • Many others

Hysteroscopy :

Hysteroscopy is viewing inside the uterine cavity i.e. endometrial cavity. This is the only procedure by which we van view & diagnose the endometrial pathology. This is an important diagnostic & operative procedure for infertility.

With the advent of video operative hysteroscopy, we are doing many operative procedures like

  • Releasing endometrial adhesion
  • Tubal canulation to the patency of the fallopian tubes
  • Where internal tubal osteum appears blocked, with Hysteroscopic forceps fibrosed area is tried to clear & Hysteroscopic & laparoscopic tubal canulation is done & in most of the cases, tubal patency is re-established.
  • In cases of Uterineseptum, which is congenital, is resected.
  • Endometrial polyps & sub mucus fibroids are resected.

Before the hysteroscopy, all these diagnosis used to be missed. Operative hysteroscopy has saved many hysterectomies & laparotomies.
